I'll keep this short, because I could rant about it all day, but Bioshock 1, while a good game in its own right, suffered badly from being console developed.
What that means is small levels, loading screens, poor interface and limited complexity.
Compare it to system shock 2, developed a decade ago for pcs which couldn't even try to run bioshock. The levels are larger, the game is longer and in every way more complex.
To some extent it's also possible to blame graphics obsession for the short play time, takes far too long to make a game these days. But the majority of the problems with bioshock can be laid squarely in front of the consoles.
